About the Property
La Perdida (the lost one) is aptly named for its’ location, eight minutes by car, up a country track in “Parque de los Alcornocales”, a forest of native cork oak trees. La Ahumada is a tiny hamlet where people settled due to its spring of rock-filtered mountain water.
The house and gardens at La Perdida have been recently redesigned (finished in April 2017) and renovated to suit a relaxed indoor/outdoor lifestyle; bedrooms lead directly onto the terrace and the plot is scattered with seating areas with the right amount of shade and sun to suit all times of the day and evening. There is a wildflower meadow with almond, olive and pistachio trees on the North side of the plot, a wooded area in the middle where you can swing a hammock and watch the wind in the trees during the heat of the day. The pool terrace is bathed in sunshine from mid morning and the traditional rose garden at the front of the property is interspersed with fig, nectarine, quince, cherry and mulberry trees.
There are multiple locations to watch the sun set over the mountains and sea as the plot is West-facing, in the tranquility of the nature and the sound of the bells of the goats returning to their farm home.
The interior style has been heavily influenced by close-by Morocco, with Moorish craftsmanship displayed in the beds, lanterns and mirrors, all handmade to spec. Comfort has been the chief concern of the owners, from quality mattresses and sofas to the leafy shaded outdoor pergola for long lunches.
The property is perfectly situated for walking the forested hills, cycling, mountain biking and bird-watching (all the migratory song birds take a pause in these forests – quite the morning chorus!), as well as being a ten minute drive into Tarifa town and fifteen minutes to the best windy and sheltered beaches of the area. Guests should note that the track up to the house can be pot-holed and should avoid renting low cars, and should get the top-up insurance as a precaution against damage to the undercarriage. Berlingo style vans and Fiat Pandas are an economical solution to this problem and practical for beach and kite gear.

End cleaning is included in the cost if it is a stay of one week or more. However, in all cases you are responsible for keeping the property and all its contents in the same state of cleanliness, repair and condition as at the commencement of the holiday. The owner reserves the right to make deductions from the security deposit for any extra cleaning, over the number of hours committed to departure cleaning.
I would recommend a car that is slightly higher off the ground, such as a Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner something of this kind or even just the simple Fiat Panda. Family estate cars can sometimes be very low to the ground and I would definitely never rent a sports car they do not suit the Tarifa roads.
